A lot of web users are still quite confused about the installation methods of Greasemonkey Scripts. So in this post I will tell you, how to install Greasemonkey and its script in your browser. Greasemonkey is a browser extension program which actually allows you to customize your internet and its setting as per your needs & preferences. This is how you can install Greasemonkey extension & its scripts in your browser.
Check if you already have Firefox 3 installed in your system. If not download it from Mozilla Home page
It’s quite simple installing Greasemonkey extension in your Firefox browser, to install visit the Greasemonkey Home Page
When you download the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox you will see a POP UP window in your screen with a countdown, wait for a few seconds [probably 3 secs] an install button will appear, click it.
When the installation is complete, Firefox will ask you to restart your browser [it is a must do to activate the extension], do it.
After you restart your browser, you will see a Greasemonkey icon on the bottom right side of your browser.
Though Greasemonkey is perfectly installed in your browser still it will not work. To make Greasemonkey do anything you need to install Greasemonkey user script. Now let me tell you how to install Greasemonkey user script properly.
There are 3 possible ways to install Greasemonkey user script, you will learn all three types of installation one by one.
First visit User script Home Page & search for script, this is the best location to look for quality user script. When you find any script that suits your specific need then its time to install it to your browser.
WAY 1 TO INSTALL GREASEMONKEY USER SCRIPT
It is the most common Greasemonkey user script installation process. You can only use this process if you click a user script installation link & see a pop up window with install options-
Click install, the script will be installed in your browser
WAY 2 TO INSTALL GREASEMONKEY USER SCRIPT
If you click a user script installation link but instead of a pop up window it bring the script source in your screen.
Click ‘Tools’ column of your Firefox Browser
You will see a Greasemonkey option there, click it an install userscript option will be there. Click it, script will be installed.
WAY 3 TO INSTALL GREASEMONKEY USER SCRIPT
If you click a user script installation link & see a pop up window with a option to save the script.
Save it in your PC.
Now right click on the saved script and navigate to 'Open With' option
Select Firefox & the userscript will either display source for which you have to follow procedure 2 or a Pop-Up window for which you have to follow procedure 1.
CHECK GREASEMONKEY USER SCRIPT IN YOUR BROWSER
To check or take a look at the userscripts in your browser right click on the Greasemonkey logo in bottom right of your screen and choose 'manage userscripts'
A pop up window will show up, In it you will have all your installed userscripts listed. If needed you can uninstall and perform other operations in this window.
